How we select each cleft and turning it into a high-performance Bat.

  • It all starts with choosing the right willow cleft—a section of English Willow that forms the bat’s blade.
  • I meticulously examine each cleft, considering factors like grain structure, density, and responsiveness.

The selected cleft undergoes a transformation. Our master bat maker carefully shapes it based our Australian conditions , paying precise attention to:

  • Dimensions: Ensuring the correct length, width, and thickness.
  • Weight Distribution: Balancing the bat for optimal performance.
  • Sweet Spot: Carving out the sweet spot—My bats are hand carved with particular attention paid to taking out weight in to toe to create amazing balance while still allowing lots of willow though the middle of the bat
  • Handle Shape: Oval Handles are our preferred shape as this allows the handle to fit comfortably in the batsman hand creating a comfortable grip for the player.
  • All bats are handmade.
  • The curvature, edges, and contours are meticulously refined to achieve the desired profile for Australian conditions.
  • The handle is shaped to a modern oval handle.
  • All bats undergo several rounds of fine-tuning. Excess willow is removed, and imperfections are smoothed out.
  • Sanding ensures a flawless finish, enhancing both aesthetics and performance.
  • ll bats are pressed so that the fibres provide durability.
  • It then undergoes a controlled drying process to stabilize the willow and prevent warping.
  • The handle is bound with twine for a secure hold.
  • The blade is fitted with a protective extratech guard to prevent damage during play (this is recommended).
  • Should you want Extratech, Oil and Toe Guard, please mention this when ordering your bat.
  • Once complete, our handcrafted bat is ready to be knocked in
  • Use old cricket balls to slowly knock in your bat, the more you do, the better your bat will respond to hitting cricket balls.
